The rules and processes which are unique to MRes students are set out below.<\/p>\n\n\n<mimas-block \n        block-name=\"accordion\"\n        role=\"complementary\"\n        aria-label=\"Accordion content\"\n        data-segment=\"all\">\n\n                \n\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Milestones\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Milestones\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Milestones\">Milestones<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Milestones\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>All HDR students are required to meet three\u00a0Milestones during their enrolment. The\u00a0standard requirements for each Milestone are\u00a0different for students completed a Masters of Research (MRes) in recognition of the Honours work already completed. The Milestone requirements for MRes students are set out below.<\/p>\n<h4>Milestone 1 (Candidacy)<\/h4>\n<p>The requirements of entry into the Master of Research program\u00a0are equivalent to the successful completion of Milestone 1, therefore your candidacy is automatically approved upon entry into the course. You will be requested to complete a shortened\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/higher-degree-by-research\/hdr-forms\/\">Milestone 1 Supplementary Application form<\/a>\u00a0upon enrolment.<\/p>\n<h4>Milestone 2 (Mid-Candidacy Review)<\/h4>\n<p>You will\u00a0need to complete the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/higher-degree-by-research\/hdr-forms\/\">MRes\u00a0Milestone 2 (Mid-Candidacy Review) form<\/a>. This will include details of your completion and dissemination plan.\u00a0\u00a0The plan may be in oral\u00a0format,\u00a0written format, or a combination of both. The requirements for the plan will differ between Schools so please contact your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/higher-degree-by-research\/contacts-help\/\">Director of Graduate Research<\/a>\u00a0(DGR) for clarification if required.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have completed the form and met\u00a0the requirements of your School, forward\u00a0the form to your School&#8217;s DGR who will complete their section and lodge the outcome with the Graduate Research School (GRS). You will receive notification of the outcome of your application for Milestone 2 from the\u00a0GRS.<\/p>\n<h4>Milestone 3 (Pre-Submission)<\/h4>\n<p>As you approach thesis submission you will need to complete Milestone 3. This requires you to complete the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/higher-degree-by-research\/hdr-forms\/\">Milestone 3 form<\/a>\u00a0and give an oral presentation\u00a0on the findings of your research. This presentation will be scheduled within your School.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have completed the student section of the Milestone 3 form please forward\u00a0the form to your School&#8217;s DGR who will complete their section and lodge the outcome with the Graduate Research School. You will receive notification of the outcome of your application for Milestone\u00a03 from the\u00a0GRS.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Resources-and-Funding\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Resources-and-Funding\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Resources-and-Funding\">Resources and Funding<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Resources-and-Funding\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Computing resources and access to facilities are arranged by your School. You should contact your School administration office or the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/it\/guides\/oasis\/\">Director of Graduate Research<\/a>\u00a0of your School for further information.<\/p>\n<p>As a Master of Research student you\u00a0are not eligible for Research Support Funds or GRS supported conference travel.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Fee-Offset-Scholarship\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Fee-Offset-Scholarship\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Fee-Offset-Scholarship\">Fee Offset Scholarship<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Fee-Offset-Scholarship\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Domestic students will receive an Australian Government fee offset scholarship (known as an RTP tuition fee offset scholarship) which covers the tuition fees for the course. This fee offset is for a maximum of one-year duration. International students are not eligible for this scholarship.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Ethics,-Research-Integrity-and-Data-Management\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Ethics,-Research-Integrity-and-Data-Management\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Ethics,-Research-Integrity-and-Data-Management\">Ethics, Research Integrity and Data Management<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Ethics,-Research-Integrity-and-Data-Management\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <h4>Ethics and Safety Approvals<\/h4>\n<p>You will need to work with your supervisor to identify whether the expansion of your Honours project into a Masters project will require new or additional ethics or hazard approvals. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/higher-degree-by-research\/ethics-safety\/\">Research Integrity Office<\/a>\u00a0manages these approvals and provides the Hazard Identification Tool (HIT) to help you determine whether you need to apply for any ethics or safety approvals.<\/p>\n<h4>Data Management<\/h4>\n<p>You will need to create a plan for the management of the data you collect as part of your research, which will address both the collection of your data and storage of that data. For further information see the Library&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.library.curtin.edu.au\/c.php?g=202401&amp;p=1333108\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Data Management<\/a>\u00a0webpage. The University provides the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dmp.curtin.edu.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research Data Management Planning Tool<\/a>\u00a0to assist you in creating your plan and to access the University&#8217;s data storage facilities.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Exiting-the-MRes\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Exiting-the-MRes\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Exiting-the-MRes\">Exiting the MRes<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Exiting-the-MRes\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>Once you have enrolled in the MRes course, your Honours degree has a status of &#8216;Converted&#8217;. However, you can still obtain your Honours degree if you choose to exit the MRes\u00a0early\u00a0by applying to receive the Honours as an Intermediate Award. Please note there is an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/essentials\/fees\/understanding-your-fees\/special-processing-and-service-fees\/\">administrative fee<\/a>\u00a0(approx $235 in 2019) associated with obtaining an intermediate award.<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to exit the MRes early and pursue this option please contact the Graduate Research Schoool at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:ROC.GRS@curtin.edu.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ROC.GRS@curtin.edu.au<\/a>\u00a0for further guidance.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Upgrading-to-a-PhD\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Upgrading-to-a-PhD\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Upgrading-to-a-PhD\">Upgrading to a PhD<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Upgrading-to-a-PhD\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>There are two avenues available for a Master of Research student to\u00a0move into a PhD. In either case the MRes Stipend Scholarship cannot be transferred to a PhD or other program.<\/p>\n<p>The standard pathway to PhD enrolment is to complete your Master of Research and apply for admission to the PhD course in the usual manner. In this scenario you will have the full time of 4 years full time equivalent available to complete the PhD.<\/p>\n<p>The second option is to withdraw from your MRes program, obtain your Honours degree as an intermediate award as detailed in the Exiting the MRes section above, and then apply for PhD entry on the basis of your Honours qualification.
