Option A: Two specialisations

A specialisation is a set of four units focused on a single area of study. Choosing to study specialisations gives you the flexibility to build knowledge across two additional fields that interest you.

Option B: One specialisation and four electives

Complement your major with a specialisation from business or a different study area and four elective units.

Electives are units you can select from across the University, provided you meet any prerequisites. They allow you to explore other study areas, broaden your skills and try something new.

For example, if you’re majoring in economics, you might choose to complete a specialisation in Actuarial Financial Mathematics. You can then choose four elective units from any course offered at Curtin, provided you meet the unit prerequisites.

Option C: Eight electives

Choose eight elective units from any course at Curtin, provided you meet the unit prerequisites.

In yourÌýthirdÌýyear,Ìýyou’llÌýcomplete a practical learning unit, also known as a capstone experience unit, toÌýput your knowledge into practice.

This course includes the following capstone experience unit, which is unique to the Bachelor of Advanced Commerce.

• Advanced Commerce Capstone Research For Impact: You’ll apply your disciplinary knowledge and research skills to a business or societal issue relevant to your field. This unit helps equip you with the skills and experience needed to undertake independent research with confidence and purpose.

Alternatively, you may be able to study units listed below, which provide different real-world opportunities.Ìý

• Advanced Commerce Study Tour: Apply your business expertise, leadership and problem-solving skills in local or international settings. Through site visits, guest lectures, team projects and cultural activities, you’ll broaden your perspective and build confidence working across cultures.
• Enhancing Your Business Mind: Use your entrepreneurial skills, business ideas and critical thinking to solve real workplace challenges. You’ll build employability skills and prepare for life after university.
• Business Clinic: Apply your business knowledge, ethical decision-making and problem-solving skills to a consulting environment, working directly with individuals, small organisations and start-ups. You’ll grow confidence in your skills by responding to real business challenges. Business and Law
• International Experience: Broaden your perspective, build your intercultural capacity and continue your studies overseas by studying a short course with one of our global exchange partners.
• Business Internship: Apply your analytical thinking and professional skills in a real workplace by contributing to industry projects and activities, helping you build career readiness and confidence. You’ll be supported by an academic adviser and an industry professional, with opportunities to expand your professional network.

Note: Capstone eligibility and availability may vary based on academic performance, room in your study plan and any applicable travel restrictions. This does not apply to Enhancing Your Business Mind.

In your fourth year (honours), you can choose between two pathways:

• Research pathway: This pathway can help you build a foundation for postgraduate study and research, including possible PhD study.
• Industry pathway: This pathway will further your practical skills, through a work placement or study tour combined with an industry project.

Early exit

You can exit this degree with a Bachelor of Commerce after completing 600 credits (equivalent to three years of full-time study). If you have a course-weighted average (CWA) lower than 75%, we may recommend exiting with a three-year bachelor degree rather than completing your honours.
